Local Trail Promotion and Development Takes Off with the Inaugural Broad Run 5K

24 APR 2010: The inaugural Broad Run 5K took place this morning in Bristow, Virginia. The event was spearheaded by Rick Holt of the Prince William Trail and Streams Coalition. Proceeds from the 1Mile Run and 5K go towards the development, promotion, and maintenance of the trail system through out Prince William County. More information on the trail system and its development can be found @: http://www.pwcts.org/ This is a volunteer organization that gives their time to the preservation and maintenance of our County's open and green spaces.

Under cloudy skies, the spirits of the trail runners were not dampened. There were many first time tail runners in attendance and all pre-registered participants showed! With an on again, off again drizzle rain, the 1 Mile kids fun run started at 8:00am, followed by the 5K @ 8:30am. The trails stayed reasonably dry during both events as course meandered thru the Broad Run while hugging the scenic creek.

Two local youngsters took home the top prizes in the the Overall Categories. Joshua Small, 13, of Bristow took the Men's overall in a time of 20:52. Hannah Chrisman, 11, took the Women's overall in a time of 24:21.
